Great Grill, bad price : Traeger Texas Pellet Grill
I've had this grill (Traeger Texas Style BBQ 075) for 4 months now and use it several times a week. So far, I've cooked LOTS of steaks (ribeyes), pork ribs, whole chickens, chicken thighs, sausage "fatties", keilbasa/bacon appetizers, baked beans, tri tips, prime rib roast, pork shoulder roasts (for pulled pork), green bean casserole, and chocolate chip cookies on it and EVERYTHING came out fantastic! I use mine as a grill, smoker, and backup oven.
I already owned a Weber Smokey Mountain charcoal smoker, and it makes great food, but it isn't anywhere close to as easy to get ready and clean up after as a Traeger. After cooking so long on a charcoal smoker, it almost feels like cheating to use the Traeger. All it takes is setting the digital thermostat to the desired temp and waiting till it is preheated, drop the food on, insert a remote wireless thermometer (I highly recommend you get one of these!) and pulling the food when the internal temp is reached. Doesn't get much easier than that.
Cleanup is simple. Almost no ash is created by the burning pellets. After burning approx. 40lbs of pellets, you "might" have a half cup of ash in the firepot. Maybe. I use a wet/dry vac to clean mine out. Easy peasy.
As far as problems go, I haven't had any. As far as temp fluctuations go, I believe it's as good or better than my oven (granted, I don't have a top of the line oven...). If you had a constant temp display on your oven, you would find that it fluctuates quite a bit. Even in very cold weather my grill only has about a 5 degree +/- temp fluctuation. You can reduce even that (I haven't felt the need to as this point) by adding fire bricks to the cook chamber and a welding blanket over the outside for insulation (you can find out more about this on multiple pellet grilling websites).
To sum it all up, I couldn't be happier with my grill. Get one and you'll be writing a similar review in no time.
